Musical affinity in sound: the meeting of two artists in one dialogue

Released in 2007, Duo 13 is the result of a musical partnership between bassist Hamilton Pinheiro and 7-string guitarist Félix Júnior. Born from a casual encounter, the album captures the strong artistic connection the two musicians quickly discovered. From spontaneous jam sessions to the recording studio, the transition was natural — and the result is a vibrant, sensitive, and authentic musical statement.

With 13 tracks featuring original compositions by both artists, Duo 13 is a musical conversation in its purest form. Rather than aiming for uniformity, the album explores a fluid dialogue, where structured arrangements coexist with open spaces for improvisation and creative freedom.

The core instrumentation — bass and 7-string guitar — reveals the technical depth and mutual respect between the players. Often, it becomes hard to tell who is leading and who is comping, as each phrase is shaped in real time through attentive listening and shared expression. This musical fluidity is perhaps the most striking feature of the album.

Produced by Hamilton Pinheiro and arranged by both musicians, the album also includes select guest appearances that add rhythmic and textural color without disrupting the duo’s intimate atmosphere. Percussion, drums, and saxophone appear at key moments, always with a light touch that enriches rather than overwhelms.

Duo 13 is both a meeting and a document — the moment when two musical paths cross and generate something new, shaped by listening, dialogue, and the joy of playing together.
